Tired of eating the same ol’ sarnies? Get ready to discover your new lunchtime obsession…

Hidden down a dingy alley, Fat Pat’s is Manchester’s top secret for legendary subs (but if you know, you know). The location might seem sketchy, but trust us, these next-level sandos are worth seeking out.

Each sub comes in an 8-inch milk roll, baked fresh every morning and packed with mouthwatering flavour combos. And when we say packed, we mean packed. This lot don’t scrimp on their fillings, so come hungry.

Finding Fat Pat’s is half the fun. Go to The Old Monkey pub off Portland Street and ‘round the corner to the back alley. Ignore the bins and head to the hatch in the wall – this is where the magic happens.

Ordering is a breeze, and you can do it online for a quick pick-up or at the hatch with cash. Be warned though – Fat Pat’s operate on a first-come, first-served basis and their sandos are in high demand by Manchester’s most in-the-know foodies.

So, what’s on offer? Luckily for you, we’ve tried and tested all three sarnies to give you the low-down. For a veggie sando that’s worth writing home about, go for the Eggplant Muffuletta. Thick slices of panko-crusted eggplant are paired with peppery rocket, sweet red peppers, loads of mozzarella and a punchy pesto that’s seriously addictive. It absolutely oozes flavour and did we mention it’s massive?

The Philly Cheesesteak is also immense, with layers of properly seasoned beef, melted cheese, and caramelised onions adding just a hint of sweetness. Is it messy? Yes. Do we care? Hell no!

Our favourite, though, is the Hot Honey Fried Chicken. It ticks all the right boxes – the chicken is juicy on the inside and crisp on the outside, while the hot honey is served in abundance and deliciously sweet. It’s all brought together with dill ranch, hot garlic sauce, salad and kebab pickles. Grab your napkins and get stuck in!

Starting at £11, a Fat Pat’s sub might seem pricier than your average meal deal, but these sarnies are far from average. In short, if you want mouth-watering comfort food on your lunch break, go and hunt out Fat Pat’s – you’ll walk away stuffed and eager to return.

Fat Pat’s, 88 Portland Street, Manchester, M1 4GX. It’s open from 12pm to 8pm, Monday to Sunday.
